At JA Brooks, we are proud to announce that our pivotal role in a landmark data centre project in London earned us nominations in two prestigious categories at the H&V News Awards 2024:

  • Building Services Project of the Year
  • Innovation in Construction and Building Engineering

While we didn’t take home the awards, being shortlisted is a tremendous honour and a reflection of the dedication, innovation, and sustainability at the heart of this project.

This state-of-the-art development exemplifies our expertise in delivering mission-critical infrastructure. The project was carried out on a live site, requiring meticulous planning and precision to ensure uninterrupted operations in the existing data halls. Our team utilised advanced BIM modelling, including cloud point surveys, to accurately map the site and coordinate every detail of the installation, overcoming the unique challenges of working in a constrained, live environment.

A highlight of the project was our strategic use of TATA Steel’s Eco-tube system. This cutting-edge material delivers up to 90% CO2 reduction compared to traditional pipework and is a visual symbol of sustainability with its distinct green finish. Through this innovation, we not only met but exceeded sustainability targets, reducing the environmental impact of the project significantly.

Our approach also included leveraging the full capabilities of our Design for Manufacture and Integration (DfMI) facility, The POD. Prefabricating over 1,100 pipework spools off-site allowed us to shift 173,000 man-hours away from the site, significantly improving safety, reducing on-site congestion, and minimising waste.

With energy-efficient cooling systems achieving an impressive Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.16, and a BREEAM Excellent certification, this project sets a new standard for sustainable, high-performance facilities in urban environments. Being recognised at the H&V News Awards reflects the impact and innovation of this project, and we are incredibly proud to have been shortlisted alongside the industry’s best.
