Project Details
This landmark project involved the delivery of a cutting-edge data centre in London, designed to support the growing demands of the digital era. The London Docklands Data Centre stands as a benchmark for innovation, sustainability, and reliability, offering state-of-the-art infrastructure to meet the needs of mission-critical operations.
JA Brooks played a pivotal role in this project, delivering comprehensive Mechanical and Public Health services. Central to our success was The POD, our advanced Design for Manufacture and Installation (DfMI) facility, which enabled the off-site prefabrication of critical components. This approach significantly reduced on-site labour, improved quality control, and accelerated delivery timelines.
Despite the complexities of working in a live environment, our team leveraged advanced tools, including BIM and 360-degree cameras, to ensure precise coordination and real-time quality assurance. The POD’s role in prefabricating components with unmatched accuracy allowed us to deliver a high-performance, sustainable solution while maintaining uninterrupted critical operations.
This project showcases JA Brooks’ ability to integrate innovative construction methods and sustainability practices, reaffirming our position as a leader in delivering mission-critical data centre infrastructure.
Our Contributions
Our contributions mainly involved:
- Full Mechanical and Public Health services
- Structural steel riser frame and flooring package in new and existing risers within the data centre
Project Highlights
We deployed a range of advanced cooling technologies, tailored for efficiency and reliability, ensuring optimal performance for the data centre’s demanding workloads
The use of low-carbon materials, including innovative pipework systems, contributed to significant CO2 savings, aligning with our client’s net-zero goals. This sustainable approach supported the project in meeting industry-leading certifications such as BREEAM
Our pivotal role in this landmark data centre project earned us nominations in two prestigious categories at the H&V News Awards 2024: ‘Building Services Project of the Year’ & ‘Innovation in Construction and Building Engineering’
The POD prefabricated over 1,100 pipework spools and modular skids, shifting over 173,000 man-hours off-site. This streamlined installation while enhancing safety and minimising disruption in a live operational environment
