This role is based in our European Data Centre Business, based in Germany. Please be advised that it would be preferable if the candidate has an EU Working Visa or the ability to work in the EU.

The project engineer is responsible for leading the planning, design, and execution of the packages within their discipline (Mechanical, Electrical or Public Health) on project(s) or as an overall project leader. The purpose of the role is to ensure that their work scope is delivered on time, within budget and to the required quality standards set out in the project contract documents. The project engineer will oversee all aspects of the project scope from tender handover through to construction, commissioning and project handover at Practical Completion. The role will require close collaboration with the wider project team including; The Client, Principal Contractor, Consultants, and other Trade Contractors.

The Project Engineer will be responsible for maintaining a strong focus on safety throughout the project ensuring compliance with all relevant safety legislation and industry standards.

 

Accountabilities

 

SHE MANAGEMENT

  • Ensure that all project work is completed in compliance with health and safety regulations and best practices and identify and manage safety risks associated with the project.
  • Develop and implement safety plans and procedures and ensure that all team members and stakeholders are aware of and comply with safety requirements.
  • Conduct safety audits and inspections and identify opportunities for improvement to safety practices and procedures.
  • Investigate safety incidents and near misses and develop and implement corrective actions to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment, and foster a culture of safety within the project team and across the organization.
  • Ensure CDM obligations are addressed and contribute to the Designing for Safety initiative on every project and that these are implemented during the BIM review and preconstruction period of the project.

DESIGN/BIM MANAGEMENT

  • Conduct feasibility studies, evaluate project requirements, and develop design concepts to ensure technical feasibility and cost-effectiveness of proposed solutions.
  • Function as Design Lead where allocated this responsibility.
  • Ensure that projects comply with contract specification, drawings, designs and current regulations & standards.
  • Lead any Value Engineering required for projects and implement through to completion as needed.
  • Ensure that drawings and design allow project programmes to be executed on time.
  • Ensure that all aspects of the project are approved and signed off via drawing approvals and technical submittals as required in the project contract documents
  • Manage the BIM Execution Plan (BEP) for the project
  • Accountable for monthly Design and BIM progress meetings

DOCUMENTATION AND COMMUNICATION

  • Prepare technical reports, project documentation, and other written materials, and present findings to project stakeholders, including senior management, clients, and regulatory bodies. These include Technical Submittals, drawings, sketches, and design report.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT

  • Accountable for completing projects in line with the JAB IMS
  • Produce and implement project programmes
  • Manage labour, materials and other resources to meet project and budgetary requirements
  • Ensure that packages under the control of the project engineer are procured and managed in accordance with the project plan
  • Produce and implement off site manufacturing strategies as required in conjunction with the DfMA Team at JAB
  • Input into the labour strategies for the project
  • Coordinate with other engineering teams, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure that project requirements are met, including providing technical guidance, reviewing work, and resolving technical issues as needed.
  • Effective change management
  • Set and monitor project targets and standards.
  • Carry our peer reviews as needed.
  • Input into focus and steering groups as required.

COMMERCIAL

  • Fully accountable for all commercial aspects of the project(s) or packages of work under the Project Engineer’s control.
  • Responsible for issuing, recording and responding to internal and external correspondence.
  • Production of weekly updated progress records as part of the wider project team for review.
  • Monitor project risks and develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to ensure that project objectives are achieved.

QUALITY ASSURANCE

  • Participate in project reviews and other quality assurance activities and ensure that all project work is completed to the required standard as set out in current legislation and within the contract documents.
  • Input into the creation of the Project Quality Plan.
  • Implement QAQC hold points for the Project(s) or Package(s) of work under the Project Engineer’s control.
  • Implement Inspection and Test Plans for the Project(s) or Package(s) of work under the Project Engineer’s control.
  • Ensure that project work complies with applicable regulatory standards and best practices, and identify opportunities for process improvement.

CLIENT ENGAGEMENT

  • Attend all meetings as required on the project to maintain exemplary communication with the Client Team including Consultants and Contractors.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

  • As and when required be involved in work winning activities.
  • Function as Bid Leader when required.
  • Stay up to date with the latest industry developments and participate in professional development activities to maintain and improve knowledge and skills.

 

Communication and Influencing

 

The role will report into a Senior Project Manager/ Project Manager and will interface with the wider project team and the enabling operations within JAB.

The Project Engineer will engage and liaise with the client and members of the professional team.

All methods of communications are to be utilised in-line with the Project Communications Plan but will typically be verbal and written communications face to face in meetings or via email.

 

Financial Responsibility

 

The Project Engineer will be responsible for successful delivery of the project(s) or Packages of Work within the project estimate.

Accountable for the operational and commercial management of the sub-contractors and suppliers through every stage of the project. Change orders should be managed and prices to ensure costs are recovered and changes formally recorded. Any delays should be recorded using the Project Progress Report template in conjunction with the Project Manager and Project Commercial Team.

 

People Responsibility

 

Typically, 2-8 direct reports depending on project size. Responsible for the performance and development of the team. Undertake mid-year and year-end PDRs for all direct reports.

 

Specific SHEQ Accountabilities

 

Responsible, in conjunction with other members of the project team, for compliance with all aspects of Health, Safety and Environmental policies and legislation.

Knowledge

Relevant experience as needed for the role.

  • Knowledge of design, commercial, pre-construction, construction and commissioning and handover activities within building services shall be required.

Qualifications

Appropriate level of engineering-based qualifications to include:

  • C&G or NVQ to level 3
  • HNC/HND/Degree in Engineering Services
  • CITB Safety Course (SMSTS)
  • CSCS Skills Card to the right level
  • Relevant experience as needed for the role.

Further Relevant Information

 

The Project Engineer will be predominantly site-based within a defined geographical area, however flexibility in this respect will be required.
