Job Description

 

The Electrical Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate, competitive, and timely estimates for electrical installations and projects. You will play a pivotal role in securing new business by delivering high-quality, detailed proposals, collaborating closely with estimators, project managers, and supply chain partners to ensure the success of each tender

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Project Assessment: Review and interpret drawings, specifications, and related documents to develop comprehensive electrical estimates for commercial, residential, and industrial projects.
  • Cost Calculation: Evaluate material, labour, and equipment requirements; obtain and analyse supplier and subcontractor quotations; prepare clear and detailed cost breakdowns.
  • Risk Evaluation: Identify potential project risks, propose effective mitigation strategies, and incorporate risk analysis into all estimates.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams—including design, engineering, and project management—to clarify scope, technical requirements, and client expectations.
  • Bid Preparation: Support the preparation of tender submissions and final bid documents, ensuring all estimates are accurate, well-presented, and compliant with client and company standards.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain organised electronic records of all estimates, supporting documents, and correspondence for audit and future reference.
  • Industry Awareness: Stay up to date with industry pricing trends, regulations, and best practices affecting electrical installations and estimating processes.
  • Value Engineering: Identify and recommend cost-saving opportunities and alternative solutions to enhance the value and competitiveness of bids.

 

Key Skills & Experience Required

 

  • Proven experience in electrical estimating, ideally within the building services sector.
  • Strong technical knowledge of electrical installations, standards, and current regulations.
  • Advanced numerical and analytical skills, with proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office (particularly Excel).
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with suppliers, clients, and internal stakeholders.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tenders and priorities independently and as part of a team.
  • Relevant qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline (desirable).
